Special Educational Needs
At some time in their educational lives, a percentage of children (estimated at about 20%) will be considered as having special educational needs and will need some form of temporary additional support to enable them to progress with their learning.
At St. Anne’s, staff monitor and assess all of the children’s development on a regular and systematic basis and record observations of children’s learning within their individual profiles. As a consequence, staff are able to identify any specific and particular needs which may arise from time to time and make appropriate provision to address them.
In addition to this group of children, there is a much smaller percentage (approx. 2%) who have more significant or long-term needs which may require a Statement of Special Educational Needs from the local authority.
It is recognised that in these cases, children will require ongoing additional support.
If your child has a Statement and you are offered a place at St. Anne’s, we will work hard before admission to ensure that we secure a one-to-one support worker who we feel will offer the highest-quality support for your child within the context of our established staff team.
Staff will work closely with you and any other agencies (speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, physiotherapists etc.) to encourage and promote your child’s learning and development. This will be conducted under the guidance and support of our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).
