Family Learning
Our Family Learning programme is well established and very popular! Throughout the year we host a number of family learning opportunities which include:
Autumn term: 5/6 week Share course
Family Numeracy workshops
Spring/Summer terms: ICT Share workshop
Family Literacy course
Our Family Learning sessions are a wonderful opportunity to work together with our parents and carers on a range of issues to promote children’s development in their early learning.
Our 12-week Family Literacy course is an accredited course and enables participants to promote their child’s literacy skills while, at the same time, developing their own. The course is fully supported by our Adult Education tutor.
Previous parents and carers pay testimony to the benefits of the various programmes:
The ICT workshop “was really good! I did not realise how much ICT is around you and how much I have taken it for granted. I will be more aware of explaining how things work to my child.” (March 2008)
“Family Literacy helped the parent to help the child whilst keeping it interesting and fun…………the course and the teacher were excellent……………I was offered a lot of useful tips on how to encourage and support my child’s learning…………it also provided me with some wonderful quality time with my child.” (Summer 2008)
The Share programme “opened up my mind to have fun whilst following a learning path. Focusing on specific tasks each week was great and manageable. Also listening to other parents was really, really helpful.” (October 2008)
The Family Numeracy workshops demonstrated “different ways of teaching mathematical concepts, moving away from just reciting numbers.” It illustrated how to “maximise opportunities for developing numeracy skills in the daily routine, using things around us” and impressed the importance of “keeping activities short and fun, little and often.” (December 2008)
