Admissions
St. Anne’s is a very popular, well-subscribed school offering 75 non-fee paying, full-time education places for children of three and four years of age. We do not admit children under the age of three years. Children will not usually be accepted unless they are fully toilet trained.
Admissions to the school take place in September and January although, if a vacancy occurs, admissions may also be made at other times during the year.
Demand for places always exceeds supply and our admissions policy and procedures are as follows:
Children can be placed on our application list from two years of age. This will ensure that they are considered for a place at the proper time when a vacancy occurs. You should note, however, that the length of time that a child’s name is on the application list does not necessarily give priority over later applicants.
An invitation will then be offered for you to visit the school, have a look around and discuss our practices and provision.
To register your child on our application list, please contact our Senior Administrative Officer.
Priority will be given to applicants whose parents are residents of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea or who live in the area of a local authority which has agreed to pay the cost of the place to the Royal Borough.
If there are more applicants than places available, the Headteacher will decide on the basis of the following considerations:
- Priority will be given to those children who are in the care of the Royal Borough or who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs which names the school.
- The preservation of a balance between the number of three and four year olds and the balance of girls and boys already in the class or school.
- The educational, medical and social needs of the child.
- The proximity of the child’s home to the school. Measurement of the distance will be the shortest reasonable walking route and accessibility by private car or public transport will be disregarded.
It is for the Headteacher to judge the balance between educational, medical and social needs and proximity to school when making a decision.
In exercising judgement on the educational, medical and social needs of individual applications, the Headteacher will consider the child’s cognitive, physical and/or linguistic needs and their family circumstances.
The Headteacher will also consider advice offered by other professionals (for example, social workers, health visitors and education welfare officers) and will take into account the availability of places at other under-fives facilities.
You will be notified that you have been allocated a place for your child by letter during the term before he or she is due to start with us. You are, of course, welcome to contact us to discuss the progress of your child’s application and we will do our very best to provide you with an accurate update.
We will not contact you if you have not been allocated a place. There is no right of appeal if your application for a place at St. Anne’s is not successful.
If your application is successful, your child will be allocated to a particular class and you will be invited to attend an induction meeting with the Headteacher and class teacher at the end of the term before your child starts with us. Our experience tells us that parents and carers value this meeting – finding it informative and interesting. It provides the opportunity to become more familiar with our school and spend time talking to the staff before the children start.
It is not our practice to offer places to children for less than two terms. Exception may be made for children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs. Decisions relating to this will be made by the Headteacher and the school’s Special Educational Needs Coordinator in discussion with the child’s parents/carers and the receiving school.
